Unit Award Citations

During the course of World War II, the regiment has earned nine Presidential Unit Citations for outstanding performance of duty, and numerous other honors from the Department of the Army and foreign governments, making it one of the most highly decorated regiments in the United States Army in World War II. From the links below you will find an index of unit awards and decorations. All awards and decorations in the database are verified by source material such as official award citations, narratives and/or synopses from individuals or records from the National Archives. Although incomplete, the records contain data of a majority of the unit award citations of the 16th Infantry Regiment during World War II. Absence of a unit award does not mean the regiment did not receive it, only that we have not yet verified that particular award.
