Citation: Warren E. Gay, 31298718, Private First Class (then Private), Company F, 16th Infantry. For heroic achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy in the vicinity of Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France, 6 June 1944. Despite heavy enemy fire, Private Gay crawled across an uncharted minefield and, with grenade and bayonet, destroyed a machine-gun installation and took many prisoners. His heroic actions contributed materially to the establishment of the initial beachhead. Residence at enlistment: Natick, Massachusetts. next of kin: Mrs. Florilda Gay, Mother, 150 S.
