Citation: Stanley Grzesik, 12022868, Private First Class, Company B, 16th Infantry, did at ***, Algeria, on 8 November 1942, distinguish himself by extraordinary heroism in connection with military operation against an armed enemy. He, of his own volition, and disregarding his own safety, crossed a field of machine gun fire and rescued a comrade who had been wounded by enemy machine gun fire. Private First Class Grzesik pulled his comrade down the side of an embankment where he administered first aid. When mortar and artillery shells fell within ten yards of their position, he further protected his comrade by covering his comrade’s body with his own body. Medal No. 8267.
