Citation: Carl R. Kaczmarek, (ASN 7074206), Sergeant, Company “G”, 16th Infantry. For extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy. On 10 November 1942, at Oran, Algeria, Sergeant Kaczmarek received an extremely painful head wound while participating with his unit in an attack. He was evacuated to the regimental aid station, where his wound was treated. After receiving what treatment could be given, he insisted on rejoining his platoon where his presence contributed in large measure to the successful continuation of the advance. The tenacity and courage displayed by Sergeant Kaczmarek inspired his comrades to even greater efforts, resulting in the rapid attainment of their objective.
