Citation: William R. Myles, 6649082, Master Sergeant, Service Company, 16th Infantry. For meritorious service in connection with operations in the Army of Occupation in Germany from 1 July 1945 to 1 January 1946. Assigned the duties of Regimental Sergeant Major at a time when the Regiment was being converted from a combat to occupational unit, and at the same time undergoing a high-speed redeployment program, Sergeant Myles advised and directed the conversion of the unit at a time when few trained individuals were available. Despite the handicap of the loss of key personnel due to redeployment, Sergeant Myles performed his duties so efficiently as to enable him to assume various additional duties. His unselfish and tireless devotion to duty, often sacrificing personal time, has made him invaluable to his unit and has been greatly responsible for his organization maintaining high standard of operation. Sergeant Myles is hereby authorized to wear the Army Commendation Ribbon by direction of the Secretary of War. Residence at enlistment: New York, New York.
