Citation: George F. Ruef, RA39009997, Technical Sergeant, Headquarters Company, Second Battalion, 16th Infantry. For meritorious service in connection with operations in the Army of Occupation in Germany from 16 February 1946 to 13 June 1946. Assigned the duties of Battalion Operations Sergeant in an organization which was being decimated by redeployment, Sergeant Ruef assumed in addition to his own duties, many which normally would have been performed by officers. Sergeant Ruef’s exceptional industry, calm sensible judgment, and admirable initiative were greatly responsible for the efficiency and effectiveness with which the difficulties of maintaining the security of a hundred mile stretch of international boundary were overcome. The opinions and information supplied by Sergeant Ruef were relied on by every Company Commander in his battalion in the performance of their occupational mission. During the three week period as First Sergeant of Headquarters Company, he returned to S-2 and S-3 Sections for several hours each day to assist in the work of those sections. His unselfish and tireless devotion to duty not only reflects great credit upon himself, but was, in great part, responsible for the maintenance of a high degree of efficiency in the operations of the battalion. Sergeant Ruef is hereby authorized to wear the Army Commendation Ribbon by direction of the Secretary of War. Residence at enlistment: San Francisco, California.
